DALLAS K. TROMBLEY
WHAT’S WRONG WITH RHYMES?
When reading many modern poems,
I’m annoyed from time to time
When I discover, upon perusing,
That many have no rhyme.
Strewn are they with melodrama
And adolescent sophistry
These are prerequisites for poetry
They for certain are not Art.
I sigh, there’s more to Art than feelings.
It as well requires skill.
It isn’t something rattled off at will.
It requires caution in its dealings.
With regard to meter
There’s been depreciation,
And with regard to rhyme,
An amount of evap’ration.
But with a bit more concentration,
And by spending some more time,
One may perhaps impress a reader,
By producing poems which rhyme.
