We are Women of Words,
Wonderful, wise, soulful words.
Happy, sad, silly words.
Vibrant, inspirational, sacred words.
Words we need to share with each other.
Words to write, words to speak among ourselves,
that we may ultimately enrich our Universe.

WomanWords™, birthed as a writing group for women almost seven years ago, has witnessed her web expanding, strengthening into an umbrella under which many creative events have been nurtured (writing retreats, workshops, open mics, book-signings, etc.)— but her primary mission continues to be the rekindling of our Creative Fire, motivating us to put pen to paper— to conjure up images, ideas, emotions awaiting self-discovery.

Whether a beginning writer or a published one-- whether you're on page 300 of your second novel or your only intention is to write family stories so they're not forgotten--whether you've got drawers full of poetic scribbles or you're writing creative nonfiction about things that matter to you-- there's a place for you at WomanWords. Writing is fun, and it can be healing as well. Women attending WomanWords sessions over the years have discovered that creativity can be infectious--meet in a circle, a small part of the larger Web of Women Writers, and your own Creative Fire gets fanned by the words of others. Each session includes ritual lighting of the Creative Fire, introductions, a creative writing exercise, optional sharing of writing from the exercise, optional readings of work written outside the session (5 minute limit), ritual extinguishing of the candle (but never our Creative Fire), and networking.

If your Creative Spirit needs nurturing, join the supportive web of WomanWords™: attend the next series of WomanWords: the workshops! We write. We share. We encourage. We honor our Muse.

We will meet monthly, from September through December, at Capital Region Wellness Center, Omega Plaza, 1315 Central Avenue, Albany, NY (just below Fuller Rd, same side of the road as Colonie Center, opposite Adirondack Strings), from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Session dates are:

Save the date: October 12th, 2004-- at New Age Cabaret on No. Pearl Street in Albany-- a special Poetry Foundation event organized by Dan Wilcox will happen-- and will feature both an IWWG member who will be here from Santa Fe (poet Wendy Brown) and the WomanWords Collective (four women poets-- Kristen Day, Judith Prest, Jan Marin Tramontano & Jill Crammond Wickham). No details right now-- it's all still being arranged-- but I'll keep you posted. Thanks so much to Dan W. who, when I forwarded an e received from IWWG Director Hannelore Hahn which had contained Wendy's original e to her noting that she would be on the east coast in the Fall and was looking for poetry performance venues, jumped right in and worked to get this event off the ground! Talk about supporting women writers... And there should be an open mic attached to the evening as well. Expected to be a great night-- please plan to be there!

DIGGING FOR THE ROOTS OF POWER: A WRITING AND EXPRESSIVE ARTS WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN

with Marilyn Zembo Day and Judith Prest

at Still Point Interfaith Retreat Center, Stillwater, NY

Saturday, November 13, 2004; 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Participants in this workshop will reflect on power: what is means to each of them; the sources of their power (their roots); who helped them to discover their personal power; who might have shown them, by word or example, how to nurture their own power, how to follow their own path; what not having it has meant to them and to others; what power women possess in a male-dominated culture; where their own places of power are, or might be found. In a safe, supportive circle of women, learn to use sound, words, images and other expressive arts to claim your own power, the affirming power of being a WiseWoman.

MARILYN ZEMBO DAY is a published writer and workshop leader. She serves as Regional Contact for the International Women’s Writing Guild and a Board Member for Hudson Valley Writers Guild. She founded and facilitates the local WomanWords Collective.

JUDITH PREST is a published poet and essayist, as well as a facilitator of writing and healing workshops. In her day job, she is a school social worker. She holds a certificate in Creativity Mentoring from Glass Lake Studio.

MARILYN and JUDITH have paired up to plan and present journal writing and other workshops in a number of venues, including at National Artists for Mental Health conferences, the College of St. Rose, Still Point Interfaith Retreat Center, and Employee Assistance Program events.

Cost: $65 ($55 if registered and paid by 10/15/04). Bring paper (or journal), your favorite writing instrument (pen, pencil, laptop, etc.) and a lunch. Register by 11/9/04. Call 518-869-1706 or e-mail wmnwords@nycap.rr.com.
